Dragons Teeth & Satima Expedition

Also known as Ol Donyo Le Satima, Mt Satima is the highest of the Aberdare’s peaks and the third highest mountain in Kenya. It is located on the Northern side of the Aberdare Ranges, the hiking cuts through the bogs and moorlands to the jaw-dropping out of this world sporadic rock formation dubbed “Dragon’s Teeth”, and finally to Mt Satima summit.

We begin the day with an early morning pick up from Nairobi at 0430hrs in the morning. We drive to the North of Nairobi and a few kilometres after Nyeri, branch off towards the mountains. The drive up the mountain is slow but magically scenic as the tropical rain forest gives way to the moorland vegetation. Ascend 12km in the mountain to reach an altitude of 3,450m at the Twin peaks point.  From this point you can sight the nearby Chebuswa peaks. The hike starts here with some of the most beautiful rock formations in Kenya. They include the Lost Pyramid, Muirs Massive, Weathering Heights, Devil’s Sword, Theatre of Heaven, and finally the Dragons Teeth with stunning rock formations. After a short rest, embark east towards the high ridges and head towards Satima peak to arrive late in the afternoon.

Descend back to the starting point and embark on our journey back to Nairobi to arrive in the evening.
