The park is situated close the Kenya-Tanzania border and lies at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa standing at 5,896m whose snow-capped summit presents a splendid view on clear days. The park is home to some of the largest herds of Elephants. The game park is also home to vast groups of Zebras, Wildebeest, Giraffes, Buffalos, Hippos and Antelopes. Also, to be found in Amboseli are Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs and many species of plain game.
